We have had several questions about the “MAY CONTAIN WHEAT” phrase on our Deli Blend and Mixed Bean Sprouts, so we wanted to shed a little light on what that might mean to you. For those with food allergies, sensitivities or intolerance’s, avoiding specific foods and ingredients is an important health challenge. This labeling precaution is intended to provide you with the information necessary to make informed food choices.
Imagine a field of lentils growing. It is very rare to find any field that doesn’t have a blade of wheat growing in it. At harvest time, the lentils are screened and sorted by the farmer to be sent to our supplier. Because wheat is similar in size and shape to lentils, it is possible for wheat seeds to sneak past the sorting process.
We do not grow wheat in our facility, nor do we use it as an ingredient in any of our sprout blends. Because wheat is listed as a priority food allergen, and the possibility, though very rare, does exist that wheat may sneak in with some of our other seed, we are required by Health Canada to add “May Contain Wheat” on our label. We hope this helps you make the best decision for your health when choosing with sprouts you want to EATMORE!
